I grew up in South Manchester with a variety of pets- cats, guinea-pigs, hamsters, rabbits and fish. Reading the James Herriot books and enjoying some horsey childhood years led me to study veterinary medicine at Edinburgh University (where I met Cath Bennett-Williams!), and I graduated in 2001. My first job was in the High Peak, in mixed practice, and after some interim years working in permanent and locum veterinary positions elsewhere, I returned in 2021 to work for Vetcare@home in the beautiful area in which I started out.
The aspects of home visit vetting which I most enjoy include being able to spend longer consultation times with each pet than in standard practice, and having good continuity of care, so that we can really get to know each and every pet and their owner well. I particularly value being able to give the nervous or elderly pets a stress-free experience, and feel that palliative and end of life care should always be carried out in the pet’s home environment where possible. My areas of interest include internal medicine, and analgesia- making sure our patients have the right combination of pain relief when needed.
Outside of work, I have a husband, two children, a border terrier and a fell pony. If I do get any additional spare time (!) I enjoy rock climbing, mountain biking and fell running.
